Washington, Boatwright Earn NFL Oppurtunity
Washington inked a UDFA deal with KC, while Boatwright earns mini-camp invite from Jets
Central Connecticut State football alums Luquay Washington and Tyler Boatwright will have the opportunity to pursue NFL dreams. Washington has signed as an undrafted free agent with the two-time Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs, while Boatwright has received a rookie mini-camp invite from the New York Jets.
"We are excited for Quay and Tyler to have the opportunity to pursue their dreams of playing at the next level," said Blue Devils head coach Adam Lechtenberg. "They have done some hard work to get to this point and we wish them the best of luck as they continue to work towards this next step."
Washington earned Second Team All-NEC in 2023, despite missing several early games due to injury. He finished the season with 31 tackles, more than four per game, and 4.5 TFL. In 37 career games, he recorded 110 tackles, 16.5 TFL and 7.0 sacks. He also had three interceptions, one in each of the past three seasons, including a 2022 pick that he returned for a touchdown.
Boatwright broke up a team-best seven passes during the 2023 season. Throughout his 33 career games with the Blue Devils he had 22 PBU's and two interceptions. Boatwright made 26 tackles, 19 solo this season, and had 71 for his career.
Tyshaun James is the last Blue Devil to sign as a UDFA, inking a deal with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022.
Jake Dolegala signed a UDFA with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2019 and made the 53-man roster. He spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with Saskatchewan in the CFL. Dolegala has 232 career CFL completions, for 2,795 yards and 12 touchdowns.
