Baseball Takes Game Three From Wagner
Blue Devils and Wagner will finish the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut baseball team scored four sixth inning runs and won its fourth straight game with a 4-0 win at home over Wagner College on Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Blue Devils are now 17-15 overall and 8-7 in Northeast Conference action. Wagner falls to 12-26 overall and 5-6 in league play. The conference series ends with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Senior Josh Ingham and junior Dominic Severino singled to put men on first and second. A sacrifice bunt by freshman Pat Sirois loaded the bases, as the runner the attempt at third base. Sophomore Connor Fitzsimons singled to left field to score the first two runs of the game. With men on second and third junior Bryan Rivera singled to right field to make it 3-0. A sacrifice fly from senior J.P. Sportman pushed the lead to 4-0.
Freshman righty Kevin Connolly picked up his first win of the season in relief pitching the final 3.2 innings for the Blue Devils without allowing a run. He is now 1-0 on the season. Connolly retired all 10 batters he faced and recorded 11 outs in the process. He induced a double play on his first batter to get out of a jam in the fourth. He struck out two.
The Blue Devils and Seahawks will finish the weekend series with a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
