Baseball Drops Home Opener
Blue Devils set to host Seton Hall on Saturday Afternoon
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision at home to Quinnipiac on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 4-6 overall on the season. They will return to action on Saturday at noon hosting Seton Hall in a doubleheader.
The Bobcats struck first with a single run in the top of the fourth inning. With men on the corners, Nic Civale executed the suicide squeeze and gave Quinnipiac the 1-0 lead.
Senior J.P. Sportman singled to lead off the inning and then stole second with one out. He scored on an RBI single up the middle from junior Dominic Severino.
Quinnipiac took a 4-1 lead with three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning.
The Blue Devils tied the game 4-4 with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Senior Anthony Turgeon led off the inning with a single and then scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore catcher Connor Fitzsimons. A second sacrifice fly from Sportman made it 4-3, and then an RBI single from senior Josh Ingham tied the game.
Quinnipiac scored twice in the top of the ninth inning to claim their fifth win of the season. They are now 5-14 overall.
Ingham had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Blue Devils. Sportman had a hit and drove in a run.
The Blue Devils will be in action again on Saturday at home hosting Seton Hall in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
