Baseball Tops Stony Brook, 4-1
Senior Nick Boyd earned the victory with six strong innings.
The Central Connecticut baseball team earned a 4-1 victory over America East member Stony Brook on Tuesday afternoon. Six strong innings from senior Nick Boyd helped the Blue Devils (14-15) to the road win over the Seawolves (22-14).
Boyd earned his second win of the season by scattering six hits and walking just one batter. He also registered three strikeouts in the game. Stony Brook's lone run came in the fourth inning when Boyd allowed three straight two-out singles and then hit a batter to force in a run.
CCSU got on the board in the top of the second with junior Dominic Severino and sophomore Conor Fitzsimons hitting back-to-back singles to start the frame. Freshman Tom Rinaldi scored Severino with a fielder's choice and sophomore Jeff Osak singled to drive in Fitzsimons and give the Blue Devils an early 2-0 lead.
The Blue Devils added two more runs in the seventh inning as Severino and freshman Pat Sirois each drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run and push CCSU's lead to 4-1.
Senior Josh Ingham pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his seventh save of the season.
Freshman Kevin Connolly worked a scoreless seventh and eighth to get the ball to Ingham.
Boyd improves to 2-1 on the season with the victory. Josh Barry took the loss for the Seawolves he falls to 2-1 on the year.
Senior JP Sportman was one of four Blue Devils to record two hits in the game. Freshman Franklin Jennings, Severino and Fitzsimons also had two hits. With Osak accounting for CCSU's ninth hit of the game.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Friday against Wagner. The Seahawks will visit New Britain for a four game series this weekend.
