Rachel Fish Named Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Week
First career weekly award for CCSU libero.
Junior Rachel Fish of the Central Connecticut volleyball team was named the Molten/Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Fish helped the Blue Devils to a pair of wins at the UIC Invitational last weekend to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Fish collected a team-high 34 digs to pace CCSU to a 2-1 showing at the UIC Invitational. In doing so, she helped the Blue Devils hold its opponents to just a .127 hitting percentage.
During CCSU's 3-0 victory Chicago State on Friday, she registered 11 digs and added nine assists. Fish added 15 vs. Morgan State the following afternoon. She also had four service aces in the win over the Bears.
Fish currently leads the Blue Devils with 79 digs and seven service aces on the season.
Central returns to action on Friday at the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic at St. John's University. The Blue Devils will play Cornell and St. John's on the opening day of the event with matches at 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively.
