Volleyball Earns Northeast Conference Fall Sportsmanship Award
Blue Devils earn award for second straight season.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team was named the winner of a 2015 Fall Team Sportsmanship Award it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Devils have won the award in each of the past two seasons.
The awards were instituted by league Presidents in 2008 and are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
Since the NEC Team Sportsmanship program was instituted in 2008-09, Saint Francis U has won a conference-best 31 awards. The Red Flash led the NEC in team sportsmanship honors each year from 2008-13.
"Good sportsmanship is one of the founding principles that guides the NEC's commitment to providing a positive student-athlete and fan experience," said Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner. "Congratulations to these four institutions who have been recognized by their peers as demonstrating the highest level of respect for the game, their opponents, the officials and their fans."
The Blue Devils closed the 2015 season with an 11-16 record overall, which included winning the Blue Devil Classic to open the season. Senior Makenna Lommori was named Second Team All-Northeast Conference, marking the fourth time in her career she earned all-conference recognition.
