Fish and Quirarte Earn Molten/Northeast Conference Weekly Honors
Blue Devils begin NEC play against LIU Brooklyn on Saturday.
Junior Rachel Fish and freshman Raquel Quirarte were each honored with weekly Molten/Northeast Conference honors it was announced by the league on Monday. Fish was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Quirarte was named the Rookie of the Week after helping the Blue Devils to a 2-1 record at the CCSU Invitational over the weekend.

Fish picked up her second NEC weekly honor this season after posting 51 digs (4.64/set) in three matches. She helped the Blue Devils' defense limit opponents to just a .130 hitting percentage and did not permit any opponent to hit better than .198 in a match. Fish currently ranks second in the NEC with 4.23 digs per set.
Fish posted her second 20+ dig match of the year with 22 against Brown on Saturday. She added two service aces in the match and helped the Blue Devils collect 71 digs as a team. In a 3-1 win over Holy Cross, she had 16 digs and chipped in four assists to help CCSU rally after dropping the opening set. In the opener of the CCSU Invitational, Fish notched a match-high 13 digs in a 3-0 win over Hartford. Central's defense held the Hawks to just a .031 hitting percentage.
Quirarte became a two-time Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week after leading Central with 48 kills (4.36/set) to go with 29 digs and seven blocks. She led CCSU in kills in each match and currently leads the conference with 3.93 kills per set.
In a four-set win over Holy Cross, Quirarte posted a double-double with a match-high 20 kills and 19 digs, a new career-high. It was the outside hitter's third 20-kill match of the season. She had 12 kills against Brown and added two block assists. Quirarte also had a match-high 16 kills in a 3-0 win over Hartford with five digs and three block assists.
The Blue Devils are now 8-5 on the season and open Northeast Conference play against the defending champions, LIU Brooklyn, on Saturday, September 26.
