Lommori Named Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Blue Devils host CCSU Invitational beginning Friday.
Senior Makenna Lommori of the Central Connecticut volleyball team was named the Molten/Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week it was announced on Monday by the league office. Lommori helped the Blue Devils defeat Cornell at the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic and collected a pair of double-doubles on the weekend.
Lommori tallied 45 digs (3.2/set) and finished second on the team with 14 block assists (1.0/set) in four matches. The senior opened the weekend with the first of two double-doubles (36 assists, 18 digs) in a win over Cornell. Lommori completed the weekend by adding 39 assists and 14 digs against George Mason and had at least two block assists in every match. Lommori, who leads the NEC with 9.52 assists per set, also moved into fourth-place on the CCSU career assists list with 2,890.
It is Lommori's third career Defensive Player of the Week award and the first since her freshman year. It is the second time this season the CCSU setter has been honored by the NEC having earned a share of Player of the Week honors on September 1.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, when they host the CCSU Invitational. Central opens the tournament against Hartford on Friday at 4 p.m.
