Volleyball Falls at Saint Francis U in Four Sets
Lommori posts third triple-double of season.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell at Saint Francis U, 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14), on Saturday afternoon in Loretto, PA. Senior Makenna Lommori posted a triple double for the Blue Devils who fell to 11-15 overall and 3-10 in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash improve to 5-23 overall and 3-10 in the league.
Central took an early 4-2 lead in the opening set thanks to a pair of kills from Lommori and another by senior Heather Trueman. The Red Flash managed to claw back and broke a 7-7 tie with a 6-1 run to take a 13-8 lead. SFU closed the set out with six straight points at one juncture and scored the final two points to win the set 25-15.
The second set was closely contested throughout, but junior Cassidy Stankowski finished three straight kills midway through the set to give Central an 18-15 edge. The Red Flash would come back to momentarily take a 21-20 lead but a kill by Lommori tied the set and the Blue Devils would take advantage of a pair of SFU errors to take the set 25-23.
The Red Flash ran off four unanswered points to open the third set and took a 4-1 lead. SFU would lead throughout. Central got within 6-5, but four straight points put the Red Flash in front as they would go on to take the set, 25-21.
Saint Francis scored the first three points in the final set before Stankowski served three straight points to put CCSU ahead 4-3. The Red Flash came back with five unanswered points to go ahead for good. SFU would score the final three points to take the set 25-14 and win the match.
Lommori finished with a team-high 16 kills to go with 15 assists and 16 digs. Stankowski added eight kills and senior Ashley Lenington had 17 assists. Junior Rachel Fish had a team-high 18 digs.
Emily Marcinowski had a match-high 17 kills for SFU, while Lauren Williams had 44 assists. Sophie Murdock had 11 total blocks, while Jenna Veres had 32 digs to lead the Red Flash defensively.
The Blue Devils conclude the season with a 3:00 p.m. match at Robert Morris on Sunday.
