Collimore Named Rookie of the Week
Jamie Collimore earns NEC women's soccer Rookie of the Week.
The Northeast Conference honored Central Connecticut women's soccer player freshman Jamie Collimore as the NEC Rookie of the Week as announced by league office Tuesday afternoon.
Collimore played a key role in Central's 3-0 win over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, coming off the bench to score two of the three Blue Devil goals. The freshman went into the contest with just one shot all season, but broke out with her first collegiate goals that came less than a minute apart.
With CCSU leading 1-0, Collimore took advantage of a hard shot from junior Carla Jackson that ricocheted right in her vicinity. The second tally came 22 seconds later that she knocked in off the Blackbird goalkeeper. The win was Central's second of the week, the Blue Devils also defeated Bryant, 2-1, on Friday.
The weekend sweep makes Central a perfect 6-0 in conference play and signified a conference tournament appearance. The Blue Devils return to action Friday, Oct. 19, when they host Mount St. Mary's at 6 p.m. for senior night.
