McLaughlin Earns Second NEC Award
Roma McLaughlin named NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
The Northeast Conference honored Central Connecticut women's soccer player freshman Roma McLaughlin as the NEC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season as announced by league office Tuesday afternoon.
McLaughlin tacked onto the Blue Devil lead scoring her first two collegiate goals in the 4-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's that sealed the regular season NEC title for CCSU. The Ireland native cashed in on Charlotte Maurer's second assist of the night, securing a line drive pass from the corner and finessing a shot right over the goalkeepers head from the top of the box. McLaughlin then notched another one just around four minutes later to give her a team a demanding 4-0 lead. The freshman is tied for fourth on her team with eight points.
The win makes Central a perfect 7-0 in conference play and the Blue Devils will host the NEC tournament on Nov. 2 and 4 in New Britain, CT. CCSU plays their last regular season game Friday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Saint Francis University.
