Maurer, Tachibana Score for Women's Soccer in 3-2 Setback at UConn
Central returns home to host Siena on Sunday at 3:00 PM.
Central Connecticut dropped a 3-2 setback to UConn in women's soccer action at Storrs, CT, on Thursday night. Junior Yo Tachibana notched a goal and an assist for CCSU, while senior Charlotte Maurer tallied a goal. The Blue Devils scored the first two goals of the game and held a one-goal lead at halftime before the Huskies got a pair of second half tallies to win the game.
Central is now 1-1 overall on the season, while the Huskies moved to 1-2 overall.
The Blue Devils had a number of chances in the early going before opening the scoring in the 21st minute after converting a corner kick. Tachibana took the corner and sent a ball into the area that found Maurer who nodded the shot into the net for a 1-0 lead at the 20:22 mark.
Central doubled the lead at the 26:11 mark when Tachibana buried her first goal of the season off a pass from junior Emily Hogan to make it 2-0.
The Huskies cut the margin to 2-1 just before halftime when Pato Jerzak took a pass from Yamilee Eveillard and converted her shot at the 37:40 mark.
UConn took the lead with a pair of goals in the opening 12 minutes of the second half. Erin Spillane collected a rebound and put her shot into the net to tie the game, 2-2, at the 47:42 mark. The Huskies took the lead on a goal by So Danyko-Kulchycky who sent home a shot from 22 yards out to make it 3-2 in the 58th minute.
The Blue Devils put pressure on the Huskies defense, putting nine shots on frame in the game, but Randi Palacios would make seven saves on the night for UConn.
Senior Ashley Cavanaugh would finish with one save for CCSU in the game.
The teams finished even in shots, 14-14. Maurer had four shots on goal for the Central attack.
CCSU will host Siena on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at CCSU Soccer Field.
