Central Will Face Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament, Saturday at 12 noon
Women's soccer will play in the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in program history.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team will face Georgetown in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Divison 1 Women's Soccer Tournament announced Monday evening. This is the ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history for Central, the seventh under head coach Mick D'Arcy. The Blue Devils and Hoyas will play on Saturday, jnov. 10 at 12 noon.
The Blue Devils defeated the Red Flash of Saint Francis U. 2-1 in the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship on Sunday Nov 4. in New Britain, CT to solidify an automatic bid. Central opened the scoring in the 67th minute. Sophomore Jenna Rae Covello dribbled from the right side and sent a low cross into the front of the goal. Senior Danielle Pearse got her toe to the ball at the right side of the goal to poke it into the net and make it 1-0. The Red Flash tied the game 1-1 with 12:47 left to play.
The game-winner came with less than two minutes remaining when Covello picked up the ball on the right side and dribbled into the middle of the box. Her left-footed shot took a deflection from 12 yards out past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.
CCSU enters the NCAA Tournament with a 16-1-2 overall record, going a perfect 8-0 against NEC opponents during the regular season. The Blue Devils are currently on a 10 game winning streak.
Georgetown won its third straight Big East title on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Butler. The Hoyas were the No. 1 seed in conference and ranked No. 4 in the national coaches' poll. They enter the NCAA Tournament 17-0-3 overall and 8-0-1 in the Big East.
Central will play the number one seed Georgetown at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Nov. 10 at noon.
