Women's Soccer Earns Sixth Straight Win
CCSU beat LIU Brooklyn 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team earned its sixth straight victory after shutting out LIU Brooklyn 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, CCSU improves to 12-1-2 and 6-0 in the Northeast Conference, and clinches a NEC Tournament berth. Central is currently first place in the league standings. LIU falls to 2-11-3 overall and 0-5-1 in conference play.
Senior Danielle Pearse opened scoring at the 49:21 minute mark when she fired the ball straight on from 10 yards in the box off a pass from sophomore Tess Atkinson making the score 1-0.
Freshman Jamie Collimore scored her first and second career goals less than minute a part. Junior Carla Jackson took a shot that was saved by the goalie but the ball bounced off her hands allowing Collimore a chance to shoot it past the keeper increasing the lead 2-0.
Collimore scored again when the ball rolled in off a deflection from the goal keeper to make the score 3-0.
Central finished with a 26-4 edge in shots and senior Ashley Cavanaugh had four saves in the goal for the Blue Devils. Aline Allmann had 13 saves for the Blackbirds.
CCSU returns to action Friday, Oct. 19, when it hosts Mount St. Mary's at 6 p.m. on senior night.
