Central Honored as Regional Staff of the Year
CCSU named North Regional Staff of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer coaching staff was named the 2018 NCAA Division I North Regional Staff of the Year as announced by the United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday. Head Coach Mick D'Arcy has coached the the Blue Devils for 19 seasons with an overall record of 191-149-35 (.556). He has led the women's soccer team to 191 of the program's 234 wins.
CCSU has a Win-Loss-Tie percentage of .850, the 4th best in all of the NCAA Division I soccer programs. D'Arcy, along with assistant coaches Jen Prozzo and Shawn Kelly, led the Blue Devils to the NCAA Tournament and finished the season with an overall 16-2-2 record going a perfect 8-0 in NEC play. Central defeated Saint Francis U. 2-1 in the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship to earn its ninth conference title, the seventh under D'Arcy.
The Blue Devils received five NEC post season awards and had six players named First Team All-Conference and three freshman named to the All-Rookie Team. D'Arcy was named the 2018 NEC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, CCSU faced the number-one seeded Georgetown in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and fell 3-1. Following the tournament, Central had three players earn All-Region Honors and four seniors Ashley Cavanaugh, Shelbie Carr, Danielle Pearse, and Charlotte Maurer were chosen for the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl.
