Women's Soccer beats Bryant 2-1
Charlotte Maurer and Tess Atkinson score in CCSU's 2-1 win over Bryant.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team beat Bryant 2-1 on Friday afternoon in New Britain, CT. Senior Charlotte Maurer and sophomore Tess Atkinson scored one goal a piece. Tonight's win makes five in a row for the Blue Devils.
CCSU improves to 11-1-2 overall and 5-0 in the NEC, while Bryant falls to 6-6-1 and 2-2-1 in conference play.
Maurer opened scoring at the 11:40 mark off a corner kick from junior Carla Jackson. Maurer headed the ball to the bottom right corner of the net making the score 1-0. The goal makes eight on the season for Maurer.
Atkinson would score her third goal in three games off a cross pass from sophomore Jenna Rae Covello. Atkinson slid and sent the ball zooming past the goalkeeper to increase the lead 2-0.
Bryant would respond in the second half when Jade McCarthy scored off a free kick from Jamie Irwin cutting the lead 2-1 at the 56:42 minute mark.
The Blue Devils would hold onto the lead for the rest of the game.
Central dominated offensively with a 27-4 edge in shots. Senior Ashley Cavanaugh had one save in the goal for the Blue Devils. Bryant's keeper Meghan Dalton finished with 12 saves.
Central is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to Brooklyn, NY to play LIU Brooklyn.
