Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at FDU Checkmate Challenge on Sunday
Sebastianelli and Tucker finish the weekend unbeaten
The Central Connecticut men's golf team posted a pair of match play victories on Sunday and finished in fifth place overall at the Fairleigh Dicksinon Checkmate Challenge on Sunday. The Blue Devils, who dropped their first match of the weekend on Saturday, rebounded to beat Iona and Bucknell in matches that took place from Saturday into Sunday.
Senior Anthony Sebastianelli and freshman Joe Tucker each went 3-0 on the weekend, including 4 and 3 victories in Sunday's final matches.
The Blue Devils topped Iona 3-2 in the second match of the tournament, it began on Saturday and finished on Sunday. Sebastianelli, Tucker and sophomore Arthur Ouimet all posted victories as the Blue Devils moved on to an afternoon match with Bucknell. Tucker won his match 1 up, while Ouimet won his 2 up.
Central posted a 4-1 victory over Bucknell to claim fifth place in the tournament. Hartford finished first, followed by Saint Peter's, Colgate and then FDU. CCSU was fifth, followed by Bucknell, Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn.
In the final match of the tournament Sebastianelli won 4 and 3, as did Tucker. Senior Brandon Raine won his match 6 and 4, and freshman Nick Piersall and Ouimet each halved their matches for the final 4-1 score.
