Men's Golf Drops Tight Match at FDU Checkmate Challenge on Saturday
Blue Devils fall 3-2 to Colgate in first round
The Central Connecticut men's golf team dropped a 3-2 decision in the first round of the Fairleigh Dickinson Checkmate Challenge on Saturday. The second round of action was stopped due to darkness and will be completed on Sunday morning.
The tournament is being played at the Seaview Golf Resort in Galloway, NJ, and is taking place on the Pines Course. It consists of eight teams and is being played in a match play format.
The Blue Devils 3-2 match vs. Colgate was about as close as it could possibly, with each team winning a pair of matches and the fifth and final match being decided after 22 holes (four extra holes after the original 18 were completed.)
Senior Anthony Sebastianelli won his match 4 and 3 to claim one victory for the Blue Devils. Freshman Joe Tucker won the other match 3 and 2.
Freshman Nick Piersall lost his match 1 down and sophomore Arthur Ouimet lost his 2 down, evening things at 2-2 against the Raiders.
The fifth and final match needed extra holes to be decided. A birdie on the 22nd hole by Colgate topped senior Brandon Raine and gave Colgate the victory. They advanced to the winner's bracket semifinal round.
The Blue Devils moved on to battle Iona in the consolation bracket. The second round match was suspended due to darkness and will be completed on Sunday.
