DeJohn Places 8th, CCSU 7th at NEC's
DeJohn shot a 78 in the third and final round to secure a top-ten spot.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team finished the 2013 Northeast Conference Tournament in seventh place on Sunday. Central marked down a team score of 315 on the third and final day.
This year's NEC Championship was held at LPGA International - Legends Course in Daytona Beach, FL. The par-72 course played 6,834 yards at this weekend's event. 36 holes were played on Saturday and Sunday saw the final 18 of the tournament. Due to a rain out on Friday, the first and second rounds were played on Saturday.
Saint Francis U (297/301/306/904) shot 40 strokes over par to capture the 2013 NEC Championship. LIU-Brooklyn (296/297/315/908) followed the Red Flash as the event's runner up shooting 44 strokes over par for the tournament. Fairleigh Dickinson (299/297/313/909), Robert Morris (293/304/315/912), Monmouth (298/304/312/914), and Bryant (313/297/304/914) rounded out the field's top-five.
The Blue Devils (298/301/316/915) led the eighth place Sacred Heart Pioneers (309/300/311/920) by five strokes. Central ended the tournament at 51 strokes over par, 11 strokes off of the tournament's leader. The Blue Devils missed the top-five by just one stroke trailing Bryant and Monmouth.
Senior Matthew DeJohn finished in the event's top-ten individually securing an eighth place finish after a day three 78. DeJohn's lowest round score came in round two where he recorded a 73. The senior's 73 was the lowest round score for a Blue Devil in the tournament. Josh Waters of LIU-Brooklyn claimed the individual championship at two strokes under par, DeJohn trailed Waters by 11 strokes.
Senior Captain Dan Fanion (74/77/78/229) and freshman Connor Murphy (76/74/79/229) each tied for 16th place on the individual leader board. Fanion and Murphy finished the tournament at 13 strokes over par.
Sophomores Monte Mullen (74/77/81/232) and Kevin Jud (86/87/84/257) finished tied for 22nd and tied for 50th respectively. Mullen was 16 strokes over par for the tournament while Jud was 41 strokes over par.
The NEC Tournament will conclude the 2012-13 season for the Blue Devils.
