Mullen, Blue Devils T5th at New Englands
Monte Mullen leads the team with a share of fifth place individually.
The Central Connecticut men's golf team is tied for fifth place on the team leader board after the first round of the New England Championships. Central is the reigning champion after winning the event back-to-back the past two years.
The event is schedule for two rounds over two days of play. Newport National Country Club in Newport, RI will be the tournament's host site. The par-72 course is playing 7,244 yards long.
Rhode Island (295) holds the first place position after Saturday's round followed by second place UCONN (297). Hartford (300) is in third place followed by Bryant (308) in fourth place. Central (309) and Fordham (309) share the fifth place spot and round out the field's top-five after day one.
Sophomore and reigning NEC Golfer of the Week Monte Mullen (37/37/74) shot back-to-back 37's to give him a share of the fifth place spot on the individual leader board after Saturday's round. Senior Captain Dan Fanion (39/37/76) is currently tied for 12th place individually after carding a day one 76.
Freshman Connor Murphy (39/40/79) is tied for 26th overall followed by senior Matthew DeJohn (40/40/80) who is tied for 29th place. Freshman Jack Ayers (42/41/83) is tied for 34th place individually.
Tomorrow is scheduled to see the second and final round of the tournament. The Blue Devils will return to tournament action on Sunday, April 13th.
