A furious second day rally for the Blue Devils led to a second round score of 284, the best team score of the tournament. They shot 308 on the first day and were fourth heading into Sunday.
Saturday saw unstable weather throughout Connecticut, and the scores showed among every team in the field. Sunday's weather couldn't have been better, reaching 76 degrees in Wethersfield and the sun shined all day long. Central's score showed it more than any other team in the field.
Mullen's 67 was the best round of the entire tournament. He was the only player in the tournament to finish below par. Senior Matt DeJohn shot a 72 to finish in a tie for fifth place overall. Senior Dan Fanion also shot a 72 to finish in a tie for 23rd place, along with teammate and classmate Greg Beloin (73).
"I am very proud of Monte's (Mullen) performance. We have had two solid weeks in a row," head coach Kevin Giancola said of Mullen and Central's performance. "Our boys played like champions today and we just fell short from a great comeback."
As a team the Blue Devils shot 24 shots better on day two than on day one, the third-best improvement among the 11 teams in the tournament.
Freshman Connor Murphy tied for 43rd after a day-two score of 77, followed by sophomore Kevin Jud who finished tied for 47th place.
Following CCSU was Laval, Iona, Binghamton, St. Peter's, Mount St. Mary's, Manhattan, Holy Cross, Hofstra and then Wagner.
