First Round of NEC Tourney Postponed
Rain washes out day one of NEC Tournament in Florida
The first round of the NEC Men's Golf Tournament in Daytona Beach, FL, has been canceled due to rain. All attempts will be made to play 36 holes with a shotgun start, starting at 8:00 a.m.
Central Connecticut will look to improve from their sixth place finish at last year's 2012 Northeast Conference Tournament. The Blue Devils have won the NEC Championship four times since joining the conference in 1997 (1997-98, 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2004-05).
The Blue Devils are led by two-time 2013 NEC Player of the Week sophomore Monte Mullen. Mullen leads the team in scoring average with a 74.8 mark as well as top-ten finishes with five. The sophomore's top finish came at the CCSU Invitational this past fall where he claimed the event's top spot.
As a team, Central has averaged a 306.7 score over 22 rounds in the 2012-13 season. In nine tournaments this season, the Blue Devils have finished in the top-ten at all nine events. Their highest finishes were at the CCSU Invitational and the St. Peter's Peacock Invitational where they placed second at both events.
Central will compete for a NEC Championship starting Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th. The tournament will see 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday.
