Football will visit Wagner on Saturday.
The Central Connecticut football team will play Wagner College on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils (3-5, 1-1 NEC) have four Northeast Conference games remaining this season starting with Saturday's contest against the Seahawks (2-6, 1-3 NEC) at Hameline Field in Staten Island, NY.
Four Weeks Left
With four weeks left in the regular season the race to the Northeast Conference Championship and the league's automatic berth in the NCAA Playoffs is still wide open. The Blue Devils control their own destiny with four NEC games remaining. Today's trip to Wagner and a Nov. 16th game at Duquesne, along with home games against Robert Morris (Nov. 9) and Bryant (Nov. 23).
Series History
The Seahawks hold a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series between these programs. This series began in 1937 with Wagner and CCSU meeting each year up until 1941. CCSU did not have a football team over the next four years because of World War II and the series did not resume until 1993. Since 1993, these programs have met every season. Recently, the Blue Devils have held the advantage winning seven times in the last nine seasons.
100+ Rushing Yards
The Blue Devils have rushed for 100+ yards in 31 consecutive games. The last time CCSU failed to reach 100 rushing yards was Nov. 6, 2010 against Robert Morris.
Two Weeks Rest
With Saturday's win against Salve Regina the Blue Devils are now 7-0 in games following an off week under head coach Jeff McInerney.
Offense Clicking
The CCSU offense has been clicking with 121 points scored and 1,575 yards of total offense over the last three games. The team is averagng 40.3 points and 525 yards per game, as well as a huge 7.7 yards per play. A trio of Blue Devils have produced a major chunk of this yardage with sophomore quarterback Nick SanGiacomo throwing for 764 yards and seven touchdowns, junior running back Rob Hollomon rushing for 465 yards and scoring eight total touchdowns and junior Tyrell Holmes has posted 376 receiving yards and a four toucdowns.
Hollomon Joins Exclusive Group
During his 94-yard touchdown run against Salve Regina junior Rob Hollomon eclipsed 2,000 yards for his CCSU career. On his next carry Hollomon surpassed the 1,000 yard mark for the season. Hollomon's 1,000 yard season is the 13th in the history of the CCSU football program. Hollomon also rushed for 1,000 yards last season and becomes just the fourth player in program history to have a pair of 1,000 yard rushing seasons. Hollomon's 2,110 rushing yards rank him fifth on CCSU's career list. Hollomon's 20 total touchdowns (18 rush, 1 ret., 1 rec.) give him 120 career points, which puts him in a tie for 10th place with Justise Hairston on CCSU's career list.
SanGiacomo Closing in on a Record
Sophomore Nick SanGiacomo has thrown 12 touchdown passes this season and with four games to play he is quickly closing in on Scott Dolch's school record of 17 touchdown passes in a season. SanGiacomo has thrown seven touchdown passes over his last three games.
