Hollomon Earns Gold Helmet Award
Junior Rob Hollomon has earned three awards this week.
Central Connecticut junior running back Rob Hollomon has earned another weekly award for his performance in Saturday's double overtime loss to #19/23 Lehigh. At a luncheon at Harvard University Hollomon was honored as the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston FCS Gold Helmet Award winner, becoming just the fifth CCSU player to ever receive the award (Stan House, Cory Harge, Justise Hairston, Gunnar Jespersen). The award is presented to the top FCS performer in New England each week at the group's weekly luncheon, which is also sponsored by the Greater Boston Gridiron Club.
Hollomon was named Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
"I am honored to be selected as the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston FCS Gold Helmet winner. Thank you for selecting me for this award, but I must give most of the credit to my teammates and coaches, particularly our offensive line. They are a great unit and lead the way for our offense every day. Thank you again for this honor, I am proud to be mentioned among such a select group of players," Hollomon said upon learning of the honor.
Hollomon posted 253 all-purpose yards for the Blue Devils in a thrilling 51-44 double overtime loss to #19/23 Lehigh on Saturday afternoon. Hollomon totaled 160 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also hauled in four passes for 69 yards.
His 44-yard catch and run, on a screen pass, on CCSU's opening drive set the offensive tone for the Blue Devils in the game. The play moved CCSU inside the Lehigh five yard line and two plays later Hollomon plunged into the end zone for his and his team's first touchdown of the game.
Hollomon added touchdown runs of 17 and 13 yards in the third quarter with his third score of the game giving CCSU a 34-17 lead with 7:06 left in the third quarter.
He rushed 35 times for 160 yards in the game and averaged 4.6 yards per rush.
As always, Hollomon was a big play threat in the game as he posted a 44 yard reception, a 35 yard rush and a 24 yard kickoff return.
Hollomon's three touchdowns matched his career-high.
On Sunday evening, the CFPA named Hollomon as an honorable mention for their National All-Purpose Performer of the Week award.
