Former Central Connecticut football player Hunter Wanket was selected as the Week Ten Offensive Player of the Week by the Professional Indoor Football League on Monday.
Wanket, a quarterback for the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, filled in for an idle Adam Bednarik, who missed the game due to personal reasons, and the Steelhawks top ranked Offense didn't miss a beat. The signal caller, starting his second game of the season, threw for 253 yards on 23 of 27 passing and three touchdowns, to go along with 28 rushing yards and an additional score. Wanket led his team to a 63-47 victory over the Knoxville Nighthawks.
In his two starts this season, Wanket has thrown for nearly 600 yards, and eight touchdowns. He also has four rushing scores on the season.
Wanket played quarterback at Central Connecticut for two seasons (2008, 2009) and helped the team to a pair of successful campaigns, including the program's only out-right Northeast Conference Championship in 2009.
Wanket completed 139-of-226 passes for 1,657 yards and 13 touchdowns during his career. He also accounted for 494 rushing yards and 2,151 yards of total offense for his career.
