Here are some notes on the Blue Devils heading into the game at URI:
Series History
This is the third football meeting between CCSU and Rhode Island. The Blue Devils and Rams played in week two of the 2004 and 2005 seasons with URI winning both meetings. The last meeting was a 56-10 victory for the Rams. This is the third time this season that the Blue Devils will play a member of the Colonial Athletic Conference. CCSU is 1-1 against the CAA so far this season. This was almost a conference game as Rhode Island had planned to move its football team to the Northeast Conference for the 2013 season, but a series of moves led to the Rams staying put in the CAA.
100+ Rushing Yards
The Blue Devils have rushed for 100+ yards in 27 consecutive games. The last time CCSU failed to reach 100 rushing yards was Nov. 6, 2010 against Robert Morris.
Trio Earn NEC Honors
Senior Chuck Watson, junior Rob Hollomon and junior Steven Calitri each earned a weekly award from the Northeast Conference on Monday afternoon. All three players were major contributors to CCSU's 20-17 victory over Albany last Saturday.
NEC Special Teams Player of the Week
Steven Calitri (Jr., K) was named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week and ECAC Division I FCS Special Teams Player of the Week after kicking a pair of career long field goals, including a 40 yarder to win the game with 17 seconds remaining.
NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Chuck Watson (Sr., LB) earned NEC Defensive Player of the Week and ECAC Division I FCS Defensive Player of the Week honors after setting a career-high with 15 tackles. Watson was flying all over the field and was a major reason why the CCSU defense held Albany to just 2.8 yards/rush.
NEC Offensive Player of the Week
Rob Hollomon (Jr., RB) was named NEC Offensive Co-Player of the Week after an excellent 145 rushing yard game. He added 60 receiving yards and 49 return yards to total 254 all-purpose yards in the game. He also scored the game tying touchdown.
Hollomon's National Ranks
Junior Rob Hollomon is among the top running backs in the nation in several statistical categories entering the fifth week of the season. He ranks fifth in rushing yards (516), eighth in rushing yards per game (129.0), tied for eighth in rushing touchdowns (6) and fifth in all-purpose yards per game (214.25).
Road Win
CCSU's 20-17 victory over Albany was the program's first road win since beating Bryant 42-21 on Nov. 19, 2011. That was the final game of the 2011 season and was CCSU's second road win of that season. The Blue Devils were 0-7 on the road between the Bryant and Albany victories.
