Watson, Calitri Earn ECAC Honors

Senior Chuck Watson and junior Steven Calitri have earned Corvias ECAC Football Player of the Week honors for their performance in CCSU's 20-17 victory over Albany on Saturday night.
Watson has been named Corvias ECAC Football Division I FCS Defensive Player of the Week. While Calitri earns Corvias ECAC Football Division I FCS Special Teams Player of the Week. Both players receivied similar honors on Monday from the Northeast Conference.
Watson earns his first NEC Defensive Player of the Week award following CCSU's great defensive effort against Albany. The senior linebacker made a career-high 15 tackles, including 3.0 TFL to help his squad earn their first victory of the season.
Watson and the CCSU defense limited the Great Danes to only 2.8 yards per carry during Saturday's 20-17 road win. With the game tied at 17-17 in the fourth quarter, Watson delivered a tackle for a loss of three yards that halted Albany's momentum. He also had his first sack of the season in the first quarter of the game.
Calitri earns NEC Special Team's Player of the Week honors in large part because of his game winning field goal with 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter. In addition, he converted the two longest field goal attempts of his collegiate career on Saturday night, with the game winner setting a new career long.
With the score tied at 17-17, Calitri connected on a 40-yard game-winning field goal with 00:17 remaining on the clock. Calitri, who was a perfect 4-for-4 on kicks, including 2 PATs, was also responsible for the game's first points. He gave CCSU a 3-0 lead 6:29 into the contest when he drilled a 31-yarder.
The Blue Devils will visit the Rams of Rhode Island this Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Meade Stadium.
