Casey Brown Signs Professional Baseball Contract
Brown earned NEC Pitcher of the Week following the final home start of his career.
Casey Brown, a Central Connecticut graduate and former baseball standout, signed a professional contract with the Normal CornBelters of the independent Frontier League. With Brown joining the professional ranks, he becomes the fourth Blue Devil over the past three seasons to sign with professional organizations.
Brown capped his career at Central by being named the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week on May 23. The left-hander threw a complete game in CCSU's 12-inning, 6-4 win over Wagner in the final home start of his career. He finished with a career-high nine strikeouts against just one walk.
Brown logged a team-high 86.0 innings as a senior and posted a career-best 3.98 earned run average in 11 starts and 15 games overall. He finished his career with 10 wins, one save and 158 strikeouts over 253.1 innings in 46 career appearances.
Prior to signing with Normal, Brown had been throwing for Top Speed Baseball of the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League. In nine appearances he had posted a league-best 7-0 record and ranked second in the league with 60 strikeouts and a 1.60 ERA over 50.1 innings. He was named the GCSBL Pitcher of the Week for Week 4 after turning in a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and recording 10 strikeouts in his start against Klamath Falls.
The Frontier League is an independent professional baseball league that began play in 2003. The 12-team league spans across states from West Virginia to Missouri. The league has helped serve as a launching pad for the careers of several players in the Major Leagues, including the most recent alum, Brandon Cunniff of the Atlanta Braves.
