Bryant Baseball Takes Two From CCSU on Saturday
Blue Devils back in action at UConn on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a doubleheader at home to Bryant on Saturday, losing game one 7-0 and game two 5-4. The Blue Devils are now 5-11 overall and 0-4 in Northeast Conference play.
The Bulldogs held the Blue Devils to four hits in the opener on Saturday as James Davitt pitched all seven innings to move to 3-1 on the season. Junior Brett Susi took the loss for the Blue Devils allowing seven runs, six earned, and 11 hits in five innings of work.
Robby Rinn, Mickey Gasper and Tyler Panno each drove in two runs for Bryant in the win.
In the second game the Blue Devils entered the ninth inning down 5-3, but loaded the bases with one out. Junior Franklin Jennings drove in a run to make it 5-4, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the threat as the Bulldogs held on for the 5-4 win.
Bryant scored once in the first and twice in the third to take a 3-0 lead on the Blue Devils. Central answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when freshman David Balunek singled in a pair of runs to make it 3-2.
Bryant scored once in the fifth and again in the eighth to make it 5-2. Central played one in the bottom of the eighth when sophomore Ryan Costello's sacrifice fly scored sophomore Dean Lockery.
Freshman Mike Appel went seven innings for the Blue Devils but fell to 0-1 on the year with the loss. He allowed four hits, three earned runs and struck out three in the game.
The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday on the road at UConn.
