Casey Brown Named Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Summer Baseball
Brown among Blue Devils having standout summers.
Casey Brown, a recently graduated standout on the Central Connecticut baseball team, was named the Pitcher of the Week by Collegiate Summer Baseball for his performance during week four of the summer season. Brown, who is pitching for Top Speed Baseball of the Golden State League, collected his fourth win of the summer.
Brown improved to 4-0 after tossing a complete game shutout against the Klamath Falls Gems on June 27. He allowed just two hits and struck out 10 against just two walks. The Wenonah, NJ native is currently leading the GSCBL in strikeouts (42), wins (four) and second in ERA (1.11). He has helped Top Speed climb to No. 9 in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League rankings.

Brown is currently leading the GSCBL in wins (four) and is second in both strikeouts (42) and ERA (1.11). He has helped Top Speed climb to No. 9 in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League rankings. He has not allowed a run across his last three outings, spanning 16.0 innings.
Mitch Guilmette - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
Guilmette has helped Top Speed race out to an 22-1 start and a nine-game win streak. Top Speed checked in with a #9 ranking in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings. He is hitting .405 through 18 games played and has hit a homerun and driven in 13 runs. Guilmette has scored 15 runs and collected four extra-base hits.
Stanley Wolpiuk - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
Wolpiuk has been part of a strong CCSU contingent helping Top Speed to its fast start. Working out of the bullpen he has appeared in three game thus far, throwing 4.2 innings. He has struck out 10, while walking just one and allowing one run. He picked up a save against the Sacramento Heat on June 21 and has a 1.92 ERA, while allowing just three hits.
Matt Martinez - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
The recently graduated Martinez is powering the offense for Top Speed. He leads the league in hitting (.432) and homeruns (nine) and is tied for the lead in runs batted in (23). In 23 games played he has scored 20 runs, stolen four bases and had has 13 extra-base hits. In a doubleheader sweep against the Klamath Falls Gems on June 28, he hit three homeruns in two games.
Dean Lockery - Ocean State Waves - NECBL
Lockery was named to the NECBL Weekly Honor Roll for his performance during week two. He has helped Ocean State to first-place in the Southern Division with an 11-5 record and a No. 6 ranking in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings. He is third on the team with a .300 batting average and has scored seven runs. He has a homerun and three runs batted in, along with six stolen bases.
Ryan Costello - Keene Swamp Bats - NECBL
Costello has helped Keene to a 11-6 record and first-place in the Northern Division. The Swamp Bats were ranked #27 in the latest Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings. He has played in 16 games and ranks third on the team with seven runs batted in. He has scored five runs and has a pair of extra-base hits to go with three stolen bases while batting .255 thus far.
Michael Pastore - Keene Swamp Bats - NECBL
Pastore, who graduated this spring, has teamed with Costello in Keene's strong start. The lefthander has made four appearances out of the bullpen for the Swamp Bats. He has thrown 12.1 innings and has a 3.64 earned run average, while recording nine strikeouts.
Andrew Hinckley - Edenton Steamers - Coastal Plain League
Hinckley, one of the top two-way players in the country, has fit right into the Steamers' lineup and rotation. Although Edenton is just 9-15 in the early going, Hinckley has been solid on the mound. He has a 1-0 mark through four starts, five appearances overall. In 19.1 innings he has a 2.33 ERA and has struck out 30 batters against just six walks. He has logged 29 at bats across eight games at the plate and has a homerun and five RBIs. He has added three runs scored and is batting .241 thus far.
Nick Plachno - Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs - Perfect Game
Plachno has been throwing out of the bullpen for Mohawk Valley and has appeared in a team-high nine games. The Diamond Dawgs are in third-place in the East Division with a 12-10 record. He has allowed two earned runs over 7.1 innings of work and sports a 2.45 earned run average. He has eight strikeouts against four walks, while compiling two saves. He has also logged 19 at bats and has collected four hits and driven in two runs.
Mike Appel - Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs - Perfect Game
Appel has started four games for the Diamond Dawgs and thrown 23.0 innings. He has racked up 20 strikeouts and posted a 2-1 record. He has won his last two outings, including a six-inning, one-run win over Amsterdam on June 24 when he struck out five.
Franklin Jennings - Utica Blue Sox - Perfect Game
Jennings has played in 19 games thus far and his hitting a team-leading .338. He has scored 17 runs and has 25 hits, with five doubles and a triple. He has driven in eight runs and stolen 12 bases. Jennings' play has helped Utica to an 18-6 start and a #12 ranking in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings. The Blue Sox are currently in first-place in the West Division.
Nick Garland - Jamestown Jammers - Perfect Game
Garland has played in 13 games for the Jammers. He has nine hits and driven in four runs and scored three more, while collecting a pair of doubles. Garland has helped Jamestown to a 13-11 start in its first season in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
Brandon Fox - Bristol Blues - Futures League
Fox has helped the Blues to second-place position in the West Division with a 12-11 record. Fox has made four starts and owns a 2-2 record. He has nine strikeouts across 19.0 innings. He won his first two starts of the season, allowing just one run in each.
