Lockery Earns Baseball Summer League Recognition
Blue Devils excelling in summer leagues across the country.
Central Connecticut baseball standout, Dean Lockery, was named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League Week 2 Honor Roll after leading the league in batting last week and helping the Ocen State Waves to six wins. Lockery is one of several Blue Devils playing in summer leagues across the country.
Here is a look at how the Blue Devils' summers have started out.
Dean Lockery - Ocean State Waves - NECBL
Lockery, a First Team All-Northeast Conference pick, is off to a fast start with the Waves, helping them to first place in the Southern Division. He was named to the NECBL Weekly Honor Roll for Week 2 after hitting a league-high .527 (9-for-17) with four runs scored and three stolen bases as the Waves went 6-0.
Ryan Costello - Keene Swamp Bats - NECBL
Along with fellow Blue Devil, Pastore, has helped Keene to a 7-2 start and a #4 ranking in the first Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings of the summer. He has played in every game thus far and ranks second on the team with a .375 batting average. He hs scored four runs and driven in four more, along with three stolen bases.
Michael Pastore - Keene Swamp Bats - NECBL
Pastore, who graduated this spring, has appeared in one game out of the bullpen for the Swamp Bats thus far. He has thrown 2.0 innings and allowed one run in a 5-3 win over North Adams on June 18.
Mitch Guilmette - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
Guilmette has helped Top Speed race out to an 11-1 start in the GSCBL and 15-1 overall, which has helped the team a #12 ranking in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings. He has played in 12 games and boasts a .320 batting average with eight runs scored and nine runs batted in.
Stanley Wolpiuk - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
Wolpiuk has teamed with Guilmette in helping Top Speed race out to an 11-1 start in the GSCBL and 15-1 overall, which has helped the team a #12 ranking in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings. Working out of the bullpen he has appeared in one game thus far and allowed one runs, while striking out six in just 2.1 innings of work in a 7-4 win back on June 13.
Matt Martinez - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
The recently graduated Martinez is batting .420 for Top Speed. He has blasted four homeruns and driven in 14 runs with 13 runs scored, while playing in 16 games. He has added three stolen bases.
Casey Brown - Top Speed Baseball - Golden State Collegiate Baseball League
Another recently graduated Blue Devil, Brown has put up strong numbers as a starter for Top Speed. He sports a perfect 3-0 record through his first four starts of the year. In 24.1 innings pitched, he has struck out a league-high 29 batters against just nine walks. He has allowed just 11 hits through four appearances and sports a 1.47 earned run average.
Andrew Hinckley - Edenton Steamers - Coastal Plain League
Hinckley, a First Team All-Northeast Conference pick, has played six games in the field and made three more appearances on the mound for the Steamers in the season's early going. He has batted .227 at the plate with a home run and three runs batted in. On the hill, he has made two starts and owns a 1-0 record. In 8.1 innings of work, he has yet to allow an earned run and has 14 strikeouts against just one walk.
Nick Plachno - Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs - Perfect Game
Plachno has been throwing out of the bullpen for Mohawk Valley and has appeared in a team-high seven games. He has allowed one earned run over 5.1 innings of work and sports a 1.68 earned run average. He has seven strikeouts against three walks, while compiling one save.
Mike Appel - Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs - Perfect Game
Appel has started three games for the Diamond Dawgs and thrown 17.0 innings. He has racked up 15 strikeouts and posted a 1-1 record. Mohawk Valley is off to a 7-8 start and sits in fourth place in the East Division.
Franklin Jennings - Utica Blue Sox - Perfect Game
Jennings has played in 14 games thus far and his hitting a team-leading .333. He has scored 13 runs and has 17 hits, with four doubles. He has driven in six runs and stolen eight bases. Jennings' play has helped Utica to an 11-5 start and a #20 ranking in the first Collegiate Summer Baseball Top 35 Summer League Team rankings of the summer. The Blue Sox are currently in second place in the West Division.
Nick Garland - Jamestown Jammers - Perfect Game
Garland has played in 11 games for the Jammers thus far. He has driven in three runs and scored two more. He's collected seven hits thus far as Jamestown is off to a 7-9 start in their first season in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.
Brandon Fox - Bristol Blues - Futures League
Fox has helped the Blues to second-place position in the West Division in the early going. Fox has made three starts and owns a 2.25 earned run average, while posting a 2-1 record. He has nine strikeouts across 16.0 innings. He won his first two starts of the season, allowing just one run in each, and has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his three outings this season.
