Cafferky Earns ECAC Defensive Player of the Year
The Swedish native earned her second All-ECAC all-star team selection and first ECAC major award.
Senior Jennifer Cafferky of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was honored on Wednesday morning as the 2017 ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-ECAC First Team selection. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2017 Division I Women's Soccer All-Star Team on Wednesday, as voted on by representativs from the Divison's member institutions.
Cafferky was the first student-athlete in NEC history to have been named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year for four seasons, placing her name in the NEC record books with Saint Francis U's Tessa McKibben, who was the Player of the Year from 2010-2013, as the only two women's soccer player in NEC history to earn four straight major awards.
The Boras, Sweden native carried the Central defense that completed six consecutive shutouts against NEC opponents and surrendered a mere two goals through all eight conference matches, setting a new CCSU program record. The Blue Devils finished their 2017 campaign with a significantly lower goals-against average posting a mark of 0.82 in 1638:42 minutes of play.
Cafferky was an All-ECAC Second Team pick for the 2015 season as a sophomore.
In her four seasons, she started 66 of 67 career games and helped CCSU post a total of 33 shutouts in that span. Offensively, she scored six goals, including three game-winners.
Navy's Ashleigh Fairow was chosen as the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and Quinnipiac's Kelsey Goldring was named the Rookie of the Year. Simon Riddiough of Hofstra was selected as Coach of the Year.
