Cavanaugh, Pearse Reel in Northeast Conference Weekly Awards
Cavanaugh snatches her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week nod and Pearse is honored as the Player of the Week.
Two Central Connecticut women's soccer juniors, Ashley Cavanaugh and Danielle Pearse, hauled in a pair of Northeast Conference weekly awards as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The dynamic duo were acknowledged by the NEC for their impact performances on Saturday night in the Blue Devils 1-0 home triumph over the Atlantic-10's Temple.
Pearse was named this week's Northeast Conference Player of the Week after scoring the lone goal against the Owls. The forward delivered her second marker of the season when teammate Yo Tachibana one-timed a ball to her in-stride for a strike into the lower left corner in the 32nd minute. This marked the third win over an Atlantic 10 foe in as many matches for the Blue Devils this season. Pearse, a Seaford, NY product, now leads CCSU in points with five, and is tied for the team lead with two goals.
Cavanaugh earned her second Defensive Player of the Week nod after posting her NEC-leading fourth shutout this season Cavanaugh saved five Owl shots, including a couple of late stops to keep the Owls at bay. The Massachusetts native has posted a 1.07 goals against average and .810 save percentage on the year on the year for the Blue Devils.
Northeast Conference action begins on Friday, Sept. 29 for Central in a 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Knight of Fairleigh Dickinson at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ. All league contests will be streamed for free live on NEC Front Row.
