Women's Soccer Edged By Providence 1-0
Providence scored the game's only goal in the 83rd minute of play.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team received its first loss of its 2017 campaign Sunday night at Providence College in a close 1-0 match on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Freshman Rachael DeBellis earned her first career start in goal as a Blue Devil and totaled four saves against the Friars.
The Blue Devils are now 2-1 on the season and the Friars move on to 1-3 with their first win of the year.
In the 83rd minute of play, Providence's Christina Klaum lofted a service into the box over the back line of CCSU's defense. Juliana Pellgrini headed the pass over Debellis who came out of the net for the game's only goal.
The Blue Devils attempted nine total shots, three of which came from junior transfer Yo Tachibana. Senior Biranna Scaldaferri added a pair of strikes on goal.
Central will host its first annual CCSU Tournament this upcoming Labor Day weekend. The games will take place on Friday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept 3. The tournament will feature matches between Harvard, St. John's, Connecticut and your Central Connecticut Blue Devils.
St. John's and Uconn will kick off the soccer weekend on Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Central will follow, playing Harvard at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, St. John's and Harvard will duel at 3:30 p.m. and the Huskies will challenge CCSU at 6:00 p.m.
