Women's Soccer Falls at Navy
The Vermont Catamounts of the America East will pay a visit to New Britain on Friday, Sept. 15 for a 7:00 p.m. contest against CCSU.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was held scoreless at Navy on Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, MD. The Blue Devils were without their key defender in Jennifer Cafferky against the Midshipmen. Eight Blue Devils came off the bench looking for a spark, however Navy's offensely-sound lineup was too much to handle as they ran away with the game 4-0.
CCSU moves to 2-4 on the season and the Midshipmen advance to 6-3 thus far.
Navy managed two goals per period and out-shot the Blue Devils 17-6 for game.
The first goal came at 25:58 off of a long throw in into the six yard box. Junior Ashley Cavanaugh misplayed an awkward bounce and Alex Jackson was there to poke in the Navy goal. CCSU fell behind 2-0 in the 42nd minute of play when Nat Dzhandzhapanyan struck a baseline cross into Eleanor Pratt in front of the goal.
Cavanaugh finished the first half with four total saves as the Midshipmen laid on the pressure rallying 16-2 on shots. Central rookie Rachel DeBellis relieved Cavanaugh in the second half and recorded two saves in the final 45 minutes of play.
Navy scored their third goal at 65:09 on an unlucky cross that deflected off of DeBellis into the net. The Patriot League member took a 4-0 lead in the 78th minute of action by Pratt who struck in her second goal of the match into the left corner.
Freshman Tess Atkinson led the CCSU offense with two strikes.
