Men's Track and Field Third at Minutemen Invitational
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team earned a third place finish at the Minutemen Invitational on Saturday in Amherst, MA.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team earned a third place finish at the Minutemen Invitational on Saturday in Amherst, MA. The Blue Devils scored 82 points at the meet to earn the second place finish. The meet was held at the UMass Track & Field Complex on the campus UMass-Amherst.
MINUTEMEN INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The Blue Devils compiled seven top-three finishes at the Minutemen Invitational, including three gold medals. Freshman Sam Borecki, sophomore Jeremy Willis and the CCSU 4x400 relay team all picked up first place finishes on the day.
Borecki took gold in the pole vault for the second-straight week. The rookie cleared 4.40 meters to earn the first place result.
Willis logged his first place finish in the javelin for the Blue Devils. The sophomore launched the javelin to a new personal-best distance of 59.31 meters, which was over 13 meters farther than the second place finisher to earn the top spot on the podium.
The CCSU 4x400 relay team of seniors Ryan Budd and Chris Savvidou, junior Malcolm Connor and Borecki posted the third gold medal for Central at the Minutemen Invitational. The team ran to a time of 3:25.34 to record the first place result.
Budd also individually recorded a runner-up performance in the 400 meter hurdles on Saturday. The veteran finished second, crossing the finish line with a season-best time of 55.49.
Sophomore Malik Gordon followed with a second place finish of his own in the high jump for Central. Gordon cleared 1.81 meters in the event to earn the result.
Kwency Crittenden continued the successful day for the Blue Devils, posting another second place finish in the triple jump for CCSU. The junior leaped to a season-best 13.44 meters to record the finish.
Senior Michael Ficorilli rounded out the seven Blue Devils to finish inside the top-three at the meet. Ficorilli earned his top-three finish with a second place result in the hammer throw. The Guilford, CT native launched the hammer to 46.58 meters to take the silver.
The Blue Devils finished third behind Northeastern, who won the Minutemen invitational with a team score of 242 points, and host UMass-Amherst (91). Central was third with 82 points followed by American International (75) and Amherst (63) to round out the top-five. Stonehill finished sixth with 62 points ahead of Holy Cross (61), Hartford (35) and Boston College (33) to complete the nine team field.
The Central men's outdoor track and field team will return to action next weekend at either the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton on April 17 and 18 or the Mark Young Invitational at Yale on April 18.
