Men's T&F Competes at Mark Young Invitational Saturday
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team completed competition at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, CT.
The Central Connecticut men's outdoor track and field team completed competition at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, CT. The meet was hosted by Yale University at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex and Dwyer Track.
MARK YOUNG INVITATIONAL RESULTS
The Blue Devils compiled nine top-10 finishes at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday, led by fourth place finishes from freshmen Sam Borecki and Eric Davidson.
Borecki, who was the NEC Rookie of the Week last week, continued to do well in the pole vault for CCSU. The freshman picked up his fourth place finish to lead CCSU at the meet after clearing 4.35 meters in the pole vault. Davidson, also a freshman, earned his fourth place finish in the 5,000 meter run. He turned in a time of 17:02.92 to earn the result.
In the high jump, freshman Joshua Walker-Thomas led the way for the Blue Devils. The rookie cleared 1.84 meters to log a sixth place overall finish in the event.
Sophomore Brian Beckwith followed with a seventh place overall finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Beckwith turned in a time of 58.09, just .19 slower than his collegiate personal best time to earn the top-10 result.
Peter Cotto threw a personal best distance in the discus throw for Central on Saturday. The sophomore fired the discus to 41.61 meters, almost a full meter better than his previous collegiate personal best mark, to log an eighth place overall finish out of 29 athletes.
Senior Michael Ficorilli also threw a personal best at the Mark Young Invitational. The veteran crushed his previous best distance in the hammer throw by over two meters, launching the hammer to 48.66 meters. The toss earned him an eighth place finish in the event.
In the triple jump, junior Kwency Crittenden turned in a top-10 performance with a ninth place overall finish. Crittenden leaped to 13.56 meters to earn the finish.
Sophomore Derek French and junior Dan Baum rounded out the Blue Devils to record top-10 finishes at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday. French clocked in his top-10 time in the 1,500 meter run with a final time of 4:05.22 to earn a 10th place overall finish. Baum cracked the top-10 with a 10th place result in the 400 meter hurdles. He crossed the finish line with a time of 1:01.08.
The Blue Devils will return to action next weekend at UMass-Amherst for the Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday, April 25. They will then travel to Emmitsburg, MD for the Northeast Conference Championships on May 2 and 3.
