Blue Devils 15th Place at IC4A's
Sam Alexander and Craig Hunt both shattered the 5,000m CCSU school record.
The Central Connecticut men's track & field team captured a 15th place finish at the IC4A Championships this weekend, a meet which hosted 42 schools. The Blue Devils, who featured 14 athletes at the meet, finished ahead of 12th place NEC rival Sacred Heart (17) and just three points behind Rutgers (23).
Senior Sam Alexander and junior Craig Hunt both shattered the 5,000m CCSU school record. Alexander placed fourth in the event with a staggering time of 14.11.15. Hunt followed Alexander finishing seventh with a time of 14:13.81. The previous school record of 14:26.02 was set by Alexander earlier this season. Both times surpassed the previous school record by more than 10 seconds.
Also displaying a record breaking performance on the day was junior Aaron Radden who eclipsed the 200m CCSU school record. Radden's 20.96 time topped his previous school record mark of 21.02 and earned him a second place seat in the event. In the semifinal round of the 60m, Radden qualified for the finals with a time of 6.86. He ran the same time in the final round earning a fourth place finish in the event's finale. Radden now ranks 10th in the country in the 200m.
Senior Rashad Williams placed 23rd overall in the shot put with a 15.41m throw.
The Blue Devils will kick off their outdoor track & field campaign on March 30th and 31st at North Florida.
DAY ONE
On day one, Radden qualified for the finals in both the 200m and 60m events. He ran well in the preliminary rounds of the 60m with a time of 6.90 and in the 200m with a stellar time of 21.21. His 60m and 200m times were both the fastest times in his heat.
Williams threw a distance of 17.11m in the weight throw.
Seniors Michael Waterbury and Robert Weston both competed in the 800m. Weston ran a personal best time of 1:53.52, sixth in his heat. Waterbury finished seventh in his heat with a time of 1:56.20.
