Former Men's Soccer Standout Knight Signs With Tampa Bay Rowdies 2
Four-year starter for Blue Devils begins professional career.
An all-conference honoree, Knight played in 57 career matches and made 55 starts during his four seasons with the Blue Devils. He tallied four goals and five assists, while serving as a stalwart on the CCSU backline. He captained the squad as a senior and set career-highs with two goals and four assists in 16 matches en route to earning Second Team All-Northeast Conference honors. Knight was a member of the 2013 Central squad which posted a league-high eight shutouts. He helped the Blue Devils go 6-1 in NEC play, earning a regular-season title, and he was named to the NEC All-Tournament team.
Knight also played with the Ocala Stampede of the Premier Development League from 2013-15. He made 41 appearances for the Stampede and tallied six goals and four assists. He helped the team to three conference championships and back-to-back national semifinals in 2014-15. He earned PDL All-Southern Region honors in 2014 and Player of the Week honors four times during his time with the team.
The Rowdies 2 are beginning their inaugural season in the NPSL in 2016. The squad is the developmental/reserve squad of the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League. The NPSL has teams in 29 states across the country and is considered to be the fourth-tier league in the United States soccer pyramid. The league is broken up into four regions (Northeast, South, Midwest, and West) with each containing three or four conferences. Rowdies 2 will play in the Sunshine Conference, in the South region, which is made up of eight teams.
The season will include 10 games and kicked off May 8 and will run through July 6.
