Men's Soccer Falls at Vermont on Sunday
Blue Devils play at Manhattan on Wednesday.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to Vermont, 2-1, on Sunday in the finale of the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic. The teams combined for a flurry of all three goals in a span of six minutes in the second half. Junior Alexander Hastings represented the Blue Devils on the All-Tournament Team.
Vermont (2-3-1) opened the scoring at the 52:40 mark when Bernard Yeboah tapped in a loose ball in a scrum in front of the net. The goal was set up by Jackson Dayton.
Central leveled the score just over five minutes later off a corner kick. Sophomore Filosmar Cordeiro took the kick and classmate Ryan Taylor flicked his shot past the goalkeeper to tie the score 1-1 at the 58:04 mark.
On the ensuing restart just 12 seconds later, the Catamounts retook the lead when Stefan Lamanna found Brian Wright for the game-winning goal to make it 2-1.
Nick Velleca made 10 saves in the Blue Devils goal, while Greg Walton made two saves for Vermont.
CCSU returns to action on Wednesday, September 16, with a 7:00 p.m. game at Manhattan.
