Men's Soccer Falls to New Hampshire, 2-0
Blue Devils face Vermont on Sunday in the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to New Hampshire, 2-0, on Friday afternoon in the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic Presented by Morgan Stanley & The Windjammer being played at the University of Vermont. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 1-2 on the season.
UNH had the majority of the early chances, but senior Josef Abele made a pair of saves to keep the score level. Sophomore Ryan Taylor got CCSU's first shot off in the 22nd minute, but Ryan Carpenter made the save.
New Hampshire broke the deadlock in the 25th minute. After CCSU failed to clear the ball out of the area, a UNH attacker was brought down and drew the penalty kick. Chris Wingate took the penalty for the Wildcats and got it past the hands of Abele to tally what proved to be the game-winner.
Wingate tacked on a goal in the 58th minute. After the Wildcats drew another penalty kick, Abele saved the initial attempt before Chris Arling set Wingate up for a second opportunity. He took advantage of the second chance and scored his second of the day to account for the 2-0 final margin.
New Hampshire finished the day with an 11-2 margin in shots. Abele made seven stops , while Carpenter made one save for UNH.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday, September 13, against Vermont at 1:30 p.m.
