Volleyball Splits on Second Day of Brown Invite
The Blue Devils will host a tournament at Detrick Gym on Sept. 19 and 20.
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team split its two matches on the second day of the Brown Invitational. The Blue Devils (2-7) swept Fairfield and then lost to the host Bears in four sets. The Blue Devils finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
CCSU will host the Blue Devil Invitational on Friday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Sept. 20.
Game #1 vs. Fairfield
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team earned a three set victory over Fairfield on Saturday morning at the Brown Invitational. The Blue Devils (2-6) won 25-18, 25-19 and 25-23 to sweep the match from the Staggs (4-5). CCSU will also play at 3 p.m. this afternoon against Brown.
The Blue Devils were led by 11 kills and a .389 hitting percentage from sophomore Brooke Schwab. Schwab also dominated the net on defense by contributing to eight blocks.
Junior Heather Trueman totaled 10 kills to follow Schwab, while freshman Nicole Celarek recorded nine kills.
Junior Makenna Lommori had a strong performance in all phases of the match with six kills, a .385 hitting percentage, 28 assists, eight digs and five blocks.
The Blue Devils posted 53 digs in the three set match with sophomore Rachel Fish posting a team-high 19. Trueman (9), senior Brittany Schumacher (8), Lommori (8) and Celarek (6) and sophomore Cassidy Stankowski (2) also registered multiple digs in the match.
Game #2 vs. Brown
The Blue Devils fell 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20, dropping the first, third and fourth sets to the Bears. CCSU won the second set 25-20.
Trueman led the Blue Devils with 17 kills in the match.
Fish led the team in digs with 15. She was followed closely by Brittany Schumacher (14) and Lommori (10).
Lommori posted 36 digs in the match and had five kills.
Brown hit .257 in the match and posted 11 service aces.
The Blue Devils will open the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational next Friday against Hartford.
