Volleyball Drops St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday
The Central Connecticut women’s volleyball team earned a five set victory the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday evening.
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team earned a five set victory the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday evening. The Blue Devils (9-14, 5-6 NEC) dropped the opening set, but rallied to win the match in five. The Terriers fall to 2-25 on the season and 0-11 in Northeast Conference action with the loss.
The Blue Devils fell 25-14 in the first set, but rebounded to win the second 25-21 and the third 25-9. The Terriers responded with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set, which forced CCSU to close out the match in a 15-6 final frame.
Senior Rachel Dunlap led the Blue Devils with 12 kills and six blocks, while junior Makenna Lommori collected 26 assists and 20 digs. Lommori also chipped in eight kills, three service aces and a pair of blocks.
The Blue Devil reception defense was excellent posting 77 digs in the match. Following Lommori's 20 were 17 from sophomore Rachel Fish, 13 from sophomore Brooke Schwab and 12 from senior Brittany Schumacher.
Sophomore Nicole Dean was second on the Blue Devils with nine kills, while Lommori (8), Schwab (7) and freshman Nicole Celarek (6) also contributed multiple kills.
At the net on defense, Dunlap (6) was followed by Schwab (4), Dean (3) and freshman Maddie Smith (3) in blocks. Schwab posted the Blue Devils lone solo block of the match as the team totaled 10 in the contest.
For St. Francis, Domenique Gerard posted a match-high 19 kills and had 17 digs. The Terrier libero, Alexa Caporcuscio, also recorded 17 digs in the match.
The Blue Devil will return to action tomorrow against LIU Brooklyn at 3 p.m. Prior to the match the graduating seniors will be honored in a ceremony.
