Volleyball Drops Two on Friday
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Harvard Invitational on Friday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Harvard Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils (0-5) were swept by Santa Clara (5-0) and then fell in four sets to Delaware (3-2) in the night cap. Junior Heather Trueman had a big second match with 22 kills and a .333 hitting percentage against the Blue Hens.
Santa Clara won 25-14, 25-15 and 25-13 to sweep the match.
Senior Rachel Dunlap and junior Makenna Lommori shared a team-high with seven kills each. Dunlap was also CCSU's most efficient hitter, posting a .286 mark.
Trueman and freshman Nicole Celarek each had four kills to follow Dunlap and Lommori.
Defensively, Dunlap's three blocks, one solo and two assists, led the team at the net. Sophomore Rachel Fish posted eight digs to lead CCSU's back row.
Delaware won 25-22, 25-18 and 25-22 with the Blue Devils capturing the third set 27-25.
Trueman led all players with 22 kills in the match. She also posted 10 digs and chipped in on a pair of blocks.
Lommori continued her strong play with 11 kills, 24 assists, 11 digs and two block assists in the Delaware match.
Dunlap was strong again at the net with seven total blocks, including two solo. Fish led CCSU with 18 digs and was joined in double figures by senior Brittany Schumacher (11), Trueman (11) and Lommori (10).
The Blue Devils will return to the court tomorrow against the host Havard Crimson at 1 p.m.
