Dunlap, Lommori Earn First Team All-NEC
Central Connecticut women’s volleyball senior Rachel Dunlap and junior Makenna Lommori were named First Team All-Northeast Conference on Friday night at the NEC’s annual postseason banquet.
Central Connecticut women's volleyball senior Rachel Dunlap and junior Makenna Lommori were named First Team All-Northeast Conference on Friday night at the NEC's annual postseason banquet. Lommori and Dunlap helped lead the Blue Devils to a fourth place finish in the regular season and a berth in the NEC Tournament.
Lommori earns first team honors for the third consecutive season. She played a number of roles for the Blue Devils during her junior season after serving as the team's primary setter her first two years.
Lommori posted team-highs with 502 assists and 298 kills. She averaged 5.12 assists per set and 3.04 kills per set on the season. She also collected 238 digs and 70 total blocks whiling showing her versatility on the court.
She also set a school record for kills in a match with 35 against Sacred Heart on Oct. 19.
Dunlap, a second team selection last season, collected first team honors after leading CCSU and the NEC in blocking for a second consecutive year. Dunlap totaled 139 blocks and 1.38 blocks per set on the season to lead the conference.
She also elevated her offensive game in 2014 posting a career-high 241 kills and .339 hitting percentage. Dunlap's .339 hitting percentage is the top mark among all NEC volleyball players this season.
Lommori joins former Blue Devil Jennifer Cote (2001, 2003, 2004) as the only CCSU volleyball players to earn first team honors three times in their careers.
Dunlap, Lommori and the Blue Devils (11-15, 7-7 NEC) will play the regular season champion LIU Blackbirds (23-6, 14-0 NEC) in the first of two NEC Tournament Semifinal matches scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22. The match will begin at 3 p.m. and fans can follow the action live on NECFrontRow.com.
