Swimming and Diving Competes at UConn vs. Huskies and St. Bonaventure
Blue Devils will be back in the pool on Saturday at Post University
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team traveled to the University of Connecticut on Friday morning for a meet with the Huskies and St. Bonaventure. Central dropped a 188-101 decision to UConn and a 184-113 decision to the Bonnies. UConn defeated St. Bonaventure 173-122.
Central gets right back in the pool on Saturday traveling to LIU Post for a meet at 1 p.m.
On Friday the Blue Devils began the day with a fourth place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. The team of junior Kaitlyn Troy, senior Maddy Garber, sophomore Alexis Fredricks and senior Lauren Czulewicz swam a time of 3:58.43.
Senior Luna Milne was seventh in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:49.74. Sophomore Ivy Milne finished right behind in eighth place in a time of 11:51.25.
Junior Aiden Devers finished fourth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.38. Czulewicz was sixth in the same race with a time of 1:57.88 and sophomore Valentina Gomez was ninth in 1:59.32.
Fredricks was third in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.82. Troy finished sixth in 1:01.31.
Garber won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.56. Sophomore Erika Maercklein was third in 1:07.54 and sohomore Grace Regan was seventh in 1:08.03.
Gomez finished second in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.80. Sophomore Kirsten Bednarz finished seventh in the 1 meter diving with a score of 176.35. Czulewicz was sixth in the 100 yard freestyle in 54.94 while Maercklein was right behind in seventh place with a time of 55.56.
Devers was solid in the 200 backstroke, finishing second with a time of 2:05.61. Sophomore Keelin Kendall was fifth in a time of 2:13.29.
Garber posted her second victory of the day, this time in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.12. Regan was sixth in 2:20.20 and Maercklein was seventh in 2:31.75.
Devers finished an impressive day with a first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.27. Gomez was fourth in the same event in 5:13.45.
Bednarz also finished seventh in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 164.45.
Garber's day finished with an impressive second place finish in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.94. Regan was fifth (2:16.46) and Kendall was sixth (2:17.06) in the same event.
The Blue Devils finished second in the 200 free relay was Czulewicz, Fredricks, Troy and Maercklein posted a time of 1:39.90.
