Swimming and Diving Opens the New Year at Florida International
Blue Devils will compete at FAU along with Fordham on Saturday morning
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team opened the new calendar year on the road at Florida International on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils, who left earlier this week for their annual trip to the Sunshine State, will also compete at Florida Atlantic University on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Fordham will also take part in that meet.
On Friday the Blue Devils swam as a team for the first time since November 19. FIU came away with the 155-63 victory on Friday.
The Blue Devils began the meet with a third place finish in the 400 yard medley relay in a time of 4:03.82. The team of junior Kaitlyn Troy, senior Maddy Garber, sophomore Valentina Gomez and senior Lauren Czulewicz swam in a time of 4:03.82. The team of junior Aidan Devers, sophomore Erika Maercklein, senior Luna Milne and sophomore Gracie Regan finished fifth in a time of 4:11.11.
Gomez then finished second in the 1,000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:41.30. Senior Maeve Awiszus finished fifth in a time of 11:31.08.
Czulewicz finished fifth in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:57.57. Maercklein was sixth in the same event in 2:00.03 and Regan was seventh in 2:01.76. Troy finished fourth in the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.74. Freshman Erin Brown was fifth in 27.44.
Devers finished fourth in the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:12.61. Sophomore Keelin Kendall was sixth in 2:17.28 and Garber was seventh in 2:17.33.
Gomez finished second in the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:08.58. Luna Milne finished in a time of 2:27.63.
In the 100 yard freestyle Czulewicz finished in a time of 55.11, while sophomore Grace Fredricks finished in 56.74 and Troy in 57.87. Devers was second in the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:06.60. Kendall also swam 2:13.43 and Brown finished in 2:20.00. Maercklein posted a time of 5:15.26 in the 500 yard freestyle to pace the Blue Devils. Regan swam the same event in 5:26.55 and Awiszus finished in 5:38.74.
Garber was second in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:23.80 and Grace Fredricks also finished in 2:33.34. The Blue Devils posted a time of 1:50.56 in the 200 yard freestyle relay with the team of Grace Fredricks, Brown, freshman Ivy Milne and Kendall.
Senior Annemarie Durham finished second in the 1 meter fiving event with a score of 240.25.
