Maddy Garber Named Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week
Senior won a pair of races in a tri-meet with FAU and Fordham
Senior Maddy Garber became the third different Central Connecticut swimmer to be named Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. The senior, who was last year's Most outstanding Swimmer at the NEC Championships, won a pair of breaststroke races in a tri-meet with Florida Atlantic and Fordham over the weekend.
Garber garners her first weekly award of the 2017-18 season after faring well against nationally competitive universities in the Blue Devils' training trip to Florida last week.
Garber claimed a pair of individual victories by more than one second apiece in a tri-meet with Florida Atlantic and Fordham. She touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke, clocking at 1:05.25, before again taking first place in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.75.
Despite a month and a half layoff, those showings rank among the top four on the NEC top-times list. The senior from Milford, MA was also a runner-up in the 200 breaststroke against a Florida International team that is the three-time defending Conference USA champion and is ranked 42nd nationally by CollegeSwimming.com.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at Northeastern.
