Blue Devils Dominant in Win Over LIU Brooklyn

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team posted wins in 11 of 14 total events on its way to a 160-77 victory on the road over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Valentina Gomez led the way with three individual victories for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils began the dial meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay, winning in a time of 1:50.06. The team of junior Kaitlyn Troy, senior Maddy Garber, Gomez and sophomore Erika Maercklein won by almost three seconds over the second place finishers.
Senior Lauren Czulewicz posted a win in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:56.90. Junior teammate Aidan Devers was second in 1:57.82 for the Blue Devils. Sophomore Alexis Fredricks then finished first in the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 59.20. Troy was third in 1:02.02 and freshman Erin Brown was fourth in 1:03.45.
Garber won the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.35, finishing ahead of Maercklein who swam a time of 1:06.70. Sophomore Gracie Regan was third in 1:09.02 and Grace Fredricks was fourth in 1:09.67.
Gomez then posted the first of her three individual wins in the 200 yard butterfly. Her time of 2:05.12 was 13 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Czulewicz finished second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.85 and then second in the 100 free in a time of 53.45. Troy was third in 56.00.
Devers won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.13, just ahead of Alexis Fredricks who swam a time of 2:06.76. Brown was fourth in 2:15.86.
Garber won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:23.93. Regan was second in 2:29.40 and sophomore Keelin Kendall was third in 2:29.84.
Maercklein won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:14.21. Senior Maeve Awiszus was second in 5:33.61 and senior Luna Milne was third in 5:43.21.
Gomez posted her second top finish, this time in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 58.37. She followed that up with a win in the 400 yard IM in a time of 4:34.14, just ahead of Devers who finished second in 4:35.67.
The team of Czulewicz, Maercklein, Troy and Alexis Fredricks was second in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:40.78.
