Garber Crowned NEC Champion, Czulewicz Earns Silver on Day Three
Garber won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke to lead CCSU at the NEC Championships.
For the second straight year the Northeast Conference crowned senior Maddy Garber the 100-yard breaststroke champion on day three of the 2018 NEC Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday night. Garber won with a gold medal time of 1:01.66, just over her 2017 winning time of 1:01.24.
The Blue Devils moved to fourth in the current rankings with 322 points through one day left of the four-day conference championships. Ahead of Central is SFU in third (395.5), Wagner in second place (456) and Bryant stands in the driver's seat with a NEC-leading 517 points.
Senior Lauren Czulewicz was named the 200-yard freestyle NEC Runner-Up after finishing with a time of 1:50.98.
The CCSU 400-yard medley relay team of Garber, Czulewicz, junior Kaitlyn Troy, and sophomore Valentina Gomez, earned a second-place finish to Bryant with a time of 3:45.35.
In the 400-yard individual medley, sophomores Gracie Regan and Gomez placed first and second in the B-final with times of 4:28.99 and 4:31.53. Junior Aidan Devers finished fourth in the A-final with a mark of 4:29.38 and second year Blue Devil Keelin Kendall placed in second in the C-final with a time of 4:40.82.
Sophomore Grace Fredricks was the fifth finisher in the first heat of the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the 100-yard backstroke Troy took fifth with a time of 56.12 and sophomore Alexis Fredricks was seventh with a mark of 56.38. Senior Maeve Awiszus swam a time of 59.90 in the second heat and freshman Erin Brown completed the first heat in 1:00.14.
CCSU swim and dive will resume action tomorrow for the final day of the 2018 Northeast Conference Championships with the 200-yard backstroke preliminary round at 10:00 a.m.
